I wonder if Amanda was wearing a wig because the paparazzi came out with photos of her and her boyfriend and she was blond again. Two more things. If you haven't been reading Russell Crowe's Twitter you've been missing out. The man is hilarious! I have them collected on my LJ Twitter-tag. This might be my favorite: Hey,look, some bad news...Fantine died yesterday. After a good nights sleep, she is going to die again today...#lesmis... Next: The first footage from the Les Misérables film was shown at CinemaCon on Thursday. CinemaCon is a convention for the studios to show off their upcoming movies to the movers and shakers of the industry (earlier last week some footage from The Hobbit was shown there and the reaction has been rather heated with a lot of people not happy). But despite the fact that the footage shown from Les Mis was raw, there's been NOTHING but raves about it and the music on various media outlets. The footage shown was only from the first two weeks of filming and the singing is all being recorded live, the sound and footage were still raw. "I Dreamed a Dream" sung by Anne Hathaway was played over a montage of clips from the film. The footage was about 40 seconds in length. Unfortunately no video of the actual footage has leaked but here is some of the press reaction: There's a video of critics discussing it (scroll down) at 9:50-ish to 11-ish. (I went ahead and transcribed this video discussion on my LJ) Based on early footage that has been screened at CinemaCon on Thursday, I can honestly say that prodigal Susan Boyle is to be de-throned, because the spin Anne Hathaway put on 'I Dreamed a Dream' ensured that, and it will surely be tough to follow. (source: FilmoFilia)
*** Universal didn’t have much to show from the new Victor Hugo adaptation, but what I did see was pretty fantastic. ... what really stuck with me was the music. Playing over the entire trailer was a rendition of "I Dreamed A Dream" sung by Anne Hathaway, and it was spectacular. (source: Cinema Blend)
*** ... the brief footage of Les Miserables wowed the CinemaCon crowd. While we were told what we were being shown was rough, unfinished, and raw, they could release what they showed us and people would start buying tickets.
...some extremely impressive visuals that show director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) is not a one-trick-pony.
If you were wondering if Anne Hathway could sing, or if Universal was going to f*** up Les Miserables, the footage we saw today makes the film another early contender for end of the year awards. I’d be willing to put a lot of money down today that it gets a Best Picture nomination. (source: Collider)
*** it was quite a powerful presentation, giving us some idea of the scope of the film, keeping in line with the musical, and boy, if Anne Hathaway isn't getting another Oscar nomination for her performance, we will be absolutely shocked. (source: Coming Soon)
*** Move over Susan Boyle: Anne Hathaway is the next diva putting a distinctive spin on "I Dreamed a Dream," based on early footage of "Les Misérables" that Universal screened at CinemaCon on Thursday. (source: The Wrap)
*** My biggest takeaway of about 60 seconds of Les Miserables footage: Anne Hathaway probably should get her Oscar dress ready. (source: Josh Horowitz, MTV News correspondent)
*** Also they world premiered a 40 second teaser type trailer for LES MIS movie. Holy s***. Looks insane. Filled with emotion. WOW. ... the 40 seconds of footage almost got me. Man, Anne Hathaway can SING! (source: Steven Weintraub, Editor-in-chief, Collider.com and here)

Digne, I am really impressed by the job you're doing finding all of this information about the movie. Often I just check out IMDB to see if there are any news, I don't really do more. But you really spend a lot of time and energy on it, I can imagine. And thank you for that and keeping us updated! And I really love your new avatar and signature. I am sure Aaronjolras will be great! ;D

I was coming here to say exactly the same and compliment Digne's new avatar/sig set!
The tweets made me laugh so much! Saw the one about Fantine dying before but the way he said "headless?" made me really giggle. What can I say, it's been a tough few weeks!

Thanks! Of all my favorite musicals Les Mis is my absolute favorite! So I'm very interested in how this turns out.
I can't wait for more photos to become available (and B'way Rebecca photos, however that turns out). I want to make more graphics.
Russell Crowe is certainly the funniest but I just love the barricade boys' tweets too! Go over to my LJ and you'll see the photos they posted today. SOOOO cute!

When I first saw the trailer I wasn't really sure what to make of it. Watched it a few times now and I love it! Looks like it's going to be a really amazing film!
What I did like (although it was what put me off at first) is the way that the singing has been made less technical but a lot more emotional. Should mean that even if the singers aren't as strong it will work well.
Excited now!

I LOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEE it! The non-technical singing doesn't bother me because Anne clearly can singing. She's just holding back in away that works with the acting. That doesn't work so well for people who can't sing but can act; the singing, even if in character, is harder to pull off artistically (Rex Harrison being one of the few successful at doing so). My two biggest concerns for the film 1.) Post production -- Getting the sound editing done in such a tight schedule is going to be hard. They are probably going to need multiple crews running at the same time. Especially considering all the singing is being done live. 2.) Will audiences believe it? -- The positive reception of the trailer is a good sign, but we may have to wait for the completed film to see if audiences will accept musical movie that uses film realism. Since the film version of Chicago film musicals have avoided putting people breaking out into song into the "real" world. Moulin Rouge and Sweeney Tood used a stylized reality. Cartoon musicals have also used stylized realities for years. While Chicago and Nine put the musical numbers inside character's imaginations. Only the film version of Hairspray, and all-out comedy, put the songs in the real world. Although Dreamgirls had a couple book numbers in the real work, most of the songs were suppose to be "real" songs (musicals about people in showbiz seem to make breaking into song easier). I for one hope that the live singing used in the Les Mis film will be enough to sell audiences on the story. And make them believe it. In which case the film realism could really add impact (as it does in the trailer). ex: Fantine's hair REALLY being cut etc ...
