Oh, I know that one lol I'm not sure how I feel about that though - love him but can't see him in the role. Mind you he sung 'Bring him home' at the concert and sounded exquisite so I'll wait and see.

If you didn't know there are all kinds of Eponine casting rumors going on right now. An unnamed source says that Taylor Swift, Lea Michele, Scarlet Johansson and Evan Rachel Wood have all auditioned for the part in the film.
My verdict? I hope there's a 5th option. I don't really want to see any of them in the part.

I can rather see them casting Lea Michele for the role to be honest. I can't see any of them in the role but you could understand why she in particular might be considered.

To be honest I can see them casting any of those 4. However I thought they were trying for authentic ages here. Lea Michele is 25. If the casting people are asking for a Cosette who is "18-22 (the younger the better)" ( source) why would they cast Eponine so much older?

Aha, these are film makers - not known for logic What I really don't get is why they seem to be aiming for straight actors or straight singers without looking for musical theatre performers. I think it would be better that way, not only are they likely to get more suitable talent, but people wont be watching it thinking 'oh, that's the girl from Glee', for example, and rather get into the plot and see the characters as people. Yeah, one 'famous' person to boost ratings but don't drown it in them. It could work, of course, but I do feel that some people high up have their priorities a bit wrong!

Yeah, one 'famous' person to boost ratings but don't drown it in them. See now there you go using logic I agree (of course). Get one just famous person -- and I'd always guessed that if there was any stunt casting in this it would be for Eponine. But from the moment they picked Hugh Jackman I've been kind of bummed about the film. Hugh knows musicals and movies but his tenor voice doesn't impress me. If he'd been cast as Javert I'd be dancing in the aisles -- his baritone is amazing. We'll see he may prove me wrong but the way the rest of the cast is going has me kind of blah. I would certainly have picked Alfie Boe over Hugh for Javert and then let the Hollywood types stunt cast Eponine to their heart's content.

Finally! I have been waiting to see if I would get overly annoyed at whoever got those parts. I don't really mind Taylor(my main concern is if she will be as awefull as Nick Jonas was at the 25th concert. He cannot sing musicals. He should stick to pop.), and not really Amanda either, though she annoyed me slightly in Mamma Mia!. But I don't mind those two. I think they'll do a great job.

I'm not happy about this, but then, as I said an earlier post on this thread that I always expected them to stunt cast Eponine. But this is a little much. But I'm laughing about it. Here is the funniest thing I've found so far

I had kinda decided to stop listening to the news about this so much because it was making me feel really sad that they're seeming to be messing it up! Seems to be the worst casting going which - okay stop ranting, get to the point.
That song made me smile so much!

Michael Kunze has actually commented on Taylor in the past. He said, "Taylor Swift, the American country star, is a phenomenon - her sugar-coated style a perfect antidote to her nation's ills. But it would not hurt if she could actually sing." (source: Kunze's Blog) ;D I was not thrilled about Hugh Jackman being cast. I'm sure he'll be passable but his casting told me that Hollywood was going to put style over substance on this one and each casting decision after it has just gotten worse and worse. I've stopped getting mad about it, I just laugh. How many times does Hollywood need to make a musicals with movie stars and it flops for them to learn the lesson that it doesn't work? Yes I do know that by contrast a movie musical with just B'way types will often fail because the actors/producers/directions don't understand the differences between the medium of stage and screen. I recognize that a film needs to have some screen names, but really one or two is enough.

Well, I quite like Taylor swift. I know her songs are country and cheesy but hey, i enjoy some of them. If she'd been cast as cosette I don't think everyone would be as annoyed. Eponine is one of those characters that everyone relates to and therefore is more protective of. As for Hugh, well ... I love Hugh jackman so, I'm rather looking forward to this. I won't say the casting doesn't have it's flaws, but I think it will turn out alright.

I don't mind her as a country singer. She's not the best but I have listened to her for some time and do enjoy her as an easy listening good fun singer but I've not seen anything that makes her seem like she would fit this role. I don't feel that the role necessitous a pretty voice but it does a strong one and just don't think she's got it. It's like casting Nick Jonas as Marius... it seemed like he had a nice voice but it wasn't strong enough to hold up alongside the others (actually quite liked his empty chairs because I feel that Marius needs to be a bit soft and when he wasn't overshadowed it was okay).
I actually think it would have been okay if she'd been cast as Cosette because she wouldn't have been one of these sickly sweet sopranos that use way too much vibretto! Sorry, I don't rate so many Cosettes! Also, as she is a 'pretty', 'sugar-coated' singer her image would have fitted with the character, at least!
I guess overall it just gets me that they're overlooking the best of the best to pander to popularity.

I love some of Taylor's country songs they are very charming (especially: "Love Story"). She's just not good live and she doesn't have the range necessary to play either Eponine or Cosette. Also I think her acting skills are questionable. Another thought: Taylor was the only one of the four names close to the correct age range. Oh, and you all know about the Justin Bieber thing? I have two problems with Hugh Jackman: His type is slightly wrong for Valjean, although I think he may be able to work around this. But the real problem is his vocal range. Hugh is an AMAZING baritone but his tenor work is only so-so. I do not want a sub-standard or lowered (a la "Bring It Down") "Bring Him Home." Not really Les Mis here, but this is something relevant to the general discussion: Stage to film, film to stage: The elusive art of illusion

I agree that the casting choices are very strange at times. Taylor would never have crossed my mind, I would only have thought actresses for the part, not singers. We will just have to see how it goes. Maybe, just maybe, it won't be as bad. Our hope is that she goes into training so it won't be as bad as people think. I adore Hugh Jackman, I openly admit it. I am really looking forward to him as Valjean, and I can so see him act the part. Of course, his singing is the concern here. I also have my doubts if he can do it properly. But again, we have both had tenor Phantoms and baritone Phantoms, so maybe it could work?
