And how many ARE there exactly?
In no particular order...
So, obviously, it all begins with Leroux, and I know both ALW versions (stage and film) then there's the Charles Dance version, the Robert Englund version... THE DREADED DARIO ARGENTO version... The "Yeston and Kopit" version? (never seen it...) I think there was a TV series.. and of course the Lon Chaney one.... huuurgh.. for a phantom phan, I feel sorely lacking in phantomy knowledge... Oooh! I forgot Susan Kay's "phantom" ... really liked that one...
Hmm... I should probably go and re-watch all the "phantom Reviewer" episodes on youtube... I know all the versions are mentioned there, but it taaaaakes sooooo looooong to watch all those... not that they're not epik... they really are.. So, personal faves? For me, the original goes without saying, closely followed by the ALW stage version, closely followed by Susan Kay's "Phantom"... uuurgh, such a tough choice!

Lol, I love those videos! They are so brilliant. I actually watched the Robert Englund version of Phantom as a result of those. That film was a bit awful, in a tragically amusing way. Have you seen his latest video? He reviewed Phantom of the Opera on Ice! Lmao. If you like the Phantom Reviewer then you should really check out The Phantom Project! phantomproject.pbworks.com/w/page/16258209/FrontPageIt is basically this huge blog that has indepth reviews of a ton of Phantom stuff. The woman who started the project, Anne Myers, has made it her goal to read/watch and review EVERYTHING Phantom. And I mean everything. She's really funny and must have the patience of a saint. Seriously, some of these novelizations sound dreadful. My favorite versions would have to be The ALW musicals (yes, I love LND. So few people do, but I think it is brilliant) and Susan Kay's book. The original is also good.

... WIG!WIG! No, I havn't seen that yet... And hmmm... that website sounds interesting..... (And don't worry, I like LND too. I mean, POM sucks, but LND is cool..... just, don't start me on "bathing beauty" ... or the incestuous overtones in "beauty underneath"...

Dario, it's your daughter!
Lol, I've listened to 'Bathing Beauty' so many times I've actually grown fond of it. I think it is meant to be awful, in a tongue in cheek ridiculing vaudeville kind of way. Like Il Muto in PoTO.
'Beauty Underneath' is my favorite LND song! I try to ignore the 'incestuous overtones' though. Can't deny they're there though- at least on Gustave's part. But apparently Gustave doesn't sound quite that out of it in the show itself, luckily. Just makes me wish they'd rerecord the soundtrack so we could hear all the differences.

.. WHAT, THE HELL, WAS THAAAAAAT? ... I know it's propably taking the mick out of itself- Even Madame Giry says it's "vaudeville trash"... However, doesn't mean it doesn't still grate on the ears a little... but then on the other hand, Il Muto is just Carlotta squawking, sooooo... Yeah- I love Beauty Underneath- but whenever Gustave sings his part... "yeeeeeeeeeees!" .....ugh... me and my friend have to go NOOOOOOOOOOOO! ...hehehe- fun times.... But yeah, I dunno what they were thinking... and it's only oon the CD that it's like that... Thank GOD, the kid didn't fo that in the show... And yeah, I'd like to hear the differences too... I hear it's changed a LOT since last Febuary...

My pet theory is that 'Bathing Beauty' and 'Il Muto' are not meant to be taken seriously. Instead they serve as comedic plot devices which poke fun at the popular musical art forms of the day (IE Opera and Vaudeville).
I've heard the same. Apparently even the final scene is a bit different! Pity they won't just tell us what all the changes are. The official youtube channel released a video about the changes, but it was just ALW and Simon Lee (musical conductor person) talking about the changes without going into any real detail- it was infuriating!
Ooh, here's the trailer for the latest Phantom Review!
. He provides a link to the proper review in the movie description over on Youtube. Apparently he's having to post the actual reviews on a different site (possibly due to length....?). I love Phantom Reviews, so entertaining. Have you seen his review for LND?

Lmao, I almost felt bad that he actually had to watch that. Still, the review was entertaining for us. But the music in it! *giggles* Awful.

*grins sheepishly* Nothing wrong with that I suppose.
Can't wait 'til he posts the next episode! Heard that, for this season, he was planning on reviewing this relatively new film called 'Angel of Music'. Based on the preview I saw it looked almost as bad as the Dario Argento film!

Yes, PR will indeed review Angel of Music. It's going to be the Dario Argento and LND for this season. I am so looking forward to it! ;D

I just saw the Charles Dance version!! I thought it was amazing!! I also saw the Robert Englund version. It was good, not my favourite but good. The funny thing is, all I could think of when Christine stuffs his music down the drain was, "I know he's evil, but omg Christine, that was low!!"

What I love about the Englund version is the awesome lines the Phantom has. And the delivery is just great, he really makes the lines work so well. Especially "Everyone dies. I just chose the time and place for a few". He's just like a little naughty kid who has just had fun being bad And it also has the most amazing piece of music when Christine enters the lair and he's playing this piece of music that apparently she just knows the lyrics to. The Charles Dance is also good, but the Phantom is not as badass as I would like him to be. But I also like the sweetness to him, there really is a goodness in him to appeal to in the end.
