I really like the novel, which is one of my favorites. I actually wrote an analysis for school once. I know the sequel, Dracula the Undead, is supposed to be a sequel to the novel, but in so many ways it's more a sequel to the Coppola movie version. I like the sequel, but it's quite far from the original.

I recently read the original novel for the first time and quite enjoyed it. I didn't expect it to be so scary, but at times I found myself quite frightened! I couldn't get into Dracual the Undead. It was alright but not as gripping as the original.
Have you read any other good versions or continuations of the Dracula story? I've read several others but so far none of them have been any good...

There might be un-official seqeuels, but there's only one official, which was written by a descendent of Stoker and another writer.

Beware! As I said before, the sequel is nothing like the original and is more like a sequel to the Coppola movie. The sequel is fine and quite well-written, but nothing at all like the original book.

Perhaps that's why I didn't like the sequel then. For some reason I just couldn't get into the Coppola movie.
There are quite a few unofficial sequels out there, but none of them seem to be any good, and they nearly all focus on the Dracula/Mina relationship (which was pretty much nonexistent in the original book if I remember correctly).

Lol, good point!
I used to like Twilight. Then I reread it and couldn't remember why I'd liked it. Then I read Dracula and really couldn't remember what was so good about Twilight....

Hehe^^ Pretty much the same here, actually:D Now, I just hate it... I mean, c'mon... Sparkling? Only Jareth can get away with that!

I kind of liked the idea of 'sparkling' vampires at first. It was a very original concept, and based on the description in the book it sounded cool. But the movie killed it. Seriously, body glitter? Lmao.

I don't like the idea of sparkling vampires. It's just another excuse to make them appealing, which they are not supposed to be. I mean, if you look at Dracula in the original novel, he's not very appealing. Nor should other vampires be, in my mind.

Well, I just read Dracula a few months ago, and yeah, it was really good, but I've never read the sequel.
Its true that future versions focus a lot on the relationship between Dracula and Mina, cause, well, its very easy to read too much into things, especially as it seems that Dracula at least is interested in her, but is it love or revenge I know not. Book Mina on the other hand hates him because of what happened to Lucy . . .
As for sparkling, well, yeah, the movie totally killed it . . .
I have an odd relationship with Twilight. I make fun of it a lot but I don't hate it . . . I CANNOT ABIDE Robert Pattison and Kirsten Stewart . . . The books, well, they are just there for 12-13 year old girls. I accept it as what it is - fun for emo tweens . . . Not the most demanding audience in the world, but definately an audience that deserves to have some sort of reading material. I was a fan, never a Twihard, and I kind of slowly out grew it. My friends on the other hand were crazy Twihards who then turned into rabid Twilight haters . . .

The reason the movies focus on Mina and Dracula is to bring some romance into it. And if you read closer into Dracula in the book, there's a lot of sexual associations, even though it's not the way we expect it today. Stoker was very conservative and worried about being sexual liberal.
