I just saw a little interview with Louise Fribo, who plays Christine in the Danish production of Love Never Dies. And she said something interesting about Christine. She commented on how Christine seems to make some bad choices when it comes to men. There is the Phantom who is borderline psychotic and then Raoul who ends up an alcoholic. She also said it might come from her childhood and having grown up without a mother and having lost her father at an early age. It just struck me that she should make that kind of analysis of the character. It isn't just the typical "she has to choose between light and dark"-take on the character. Of course, I cannot say what other actresses who has played Christine has said about the character.

See I find such a jarring contrast between the Christine of Phantom and the Christine of the (CD) of Love Never Dies... I've still not watched it... that it's hard from me to comment on them as the same character.
I mean, if one looks at the PotO only, she's made quite a good decision. She's turned away from the man who she has seen as this angel, who represents so much of the father she loved and has lost because he's a psycho, basically. Of course, not many of us are that fond of Raoul but he wouldn't be a bad choice, certainly not in the time context. He's high class, someone she's been friends with since childhood, does all he can to protect her, and loves her.
However, the LND relationships... yes, I can completely see where the actress is coming from. Especially considering the whole timings issue with Gustav's conception. Of course, I guess she's looking at it from the LND outlook as she's playing it.
It is a really unusual analysis though. It's like she's looking at a real person as opposed to an artistic idea and that's really nice!
