He's difinetly a great composer. Some of his songs are pure awesome, but some are also not that great. And has he a tendency to reuse his tunes? He used the same tune both in Rudolph(Vertrau Uns) and Scarlet Pimpernel. And another song in Rudolph seemed a little similar to Ein Leben Merh/Life After Life from Dracula. I suppose composers to that sometimes.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a Wildhorn fan but he defiantly reuses ideas if not exact music in songs to such an extent that you can draw huge comparisons. I mean there are a couple of songs in Rudolf (where he's pondering about whether to sign or not etc) that just sound so much like "This is the Moment" from Jekyll and Hyde.
It's as though he works out one way of doing it that works so sticks to it... I dunno.

Sometimes he doesn't know what songs he actually needs to make a good show. For example, Dracula and Rudolph has loads of similar songs. Rudolph often sings about how his life sucks and he wishes to be free, and Dracula has the same problem. I don't know if it's because he's not inventive with his tunes or if it's just because there are too many of the same kind of song.

My problem with Wildhorn shows is his books! Seriously how can Wildhorn write interesting scores unless he has something to write ABOUT. But *almost* all his shows have terrible books! (haven't seen B&C so I can't comment there). But J&K, SP so much good music but so much crap in the books.

I do agree to a degree. His books are often his weakness. That said, I think that some of his musicals like Jekyll and Hyde are fantastic. I also like the lyrics of Rudolf (don't kill me lol) and some of the other things. That said, the English Dracula gah, that's horrid!

I have to admit I like the lyrics in Rudolf too. I'm not as familiar with j&h or the scarlet pimpernel so I can't comment there. But its true that he's not had much success despite the fact that his music is great.

Just a hint, if you're interested in Jekyll and Hyde do not watch the film version with David Hasselhof. It's one of my favourite musicals but that version kills if for me and I don't think I've come across anyone who likes it!
