I was just thinking, the other day, I don't think I've heard much about Italian musical theatre, not translations or original. This really surprised me as you'd think that there would be quite a bit there. So, am I being really stupid of is there a lack of it in Italy?

I know they have put on productions of Notre Dame de Paris and Romeo et Juliette. But other than that I have never heard of Italian musical productions. I am sure they have done some. They must have since almost all other countries in the world have.

The Italians are like the French, they love opera but musical theater doesn't excite them. What has happened in France the last 12 or so years has been incredible to watch but also a clear sign that French musical theater (if you can call it French musical theater) is a VERY different animal in France. If anything is to appeal to the Italians it would be a musical in the French style.

I was thinking much the same but knew it would be worthwhile checking. I have a problem though as the theatre course I'm looking at doing at uni has cancelled the German combination course so I'm kinda forced to do French or Italian if I want to do a language with it (which I do).
