Something that I have wondered for some time is if men are being cut more slack when it comes the quality of their voice then women. I have sometime heard men who no doubt are good singers, but they may not have the same quality as the women. Or is it just because male and female voices are different? Or am I just being strange here?

I do know what you mean and have often thought that it would be easier to be a male singer than a female for just that reason. I'm not saying that this is the case but I think it might be. I wonder if maybe this is because we have such an exact view on how a female voice should sound for it to be good which means that most professionals are trained to sing in this way meaning that there is a standard female type voice. I don't think we do have this with male voice which I guess could allow for more variation. Maybe it's just that more women are interested in singing as some men see it as feminine therefore a bulk of male talent goes unregistered allowing those who are perhaps not so talented to get roles. And of course there's then the fangirl aspect - do looks mean more than the voice often?
