Lol, I think my favorite scenes are identical to my favorite songs plus a few more. ;D
Oh, absolutely! Two of my favorite songs (as sung by John Barrowman) didn't make my list because no recording I've found can match his live performance of them. Not that I've seen him sing live yet mind. Still, YouTube clips convey plenty of atmosphere.

What are everyone's top 10 songs (musicals only)?? Here's mine. 1) Defying Gravity (Wicked) 2) Wenn ich Tanzen Will (Elisabeth) 3) Wenn das Schicksal dich ereilt (Rudolf)/ Prolog (Elisabeth) 4) Zu Ende (Dracula)/ Do you hear the people sing (Les Mis) 5) Der Weg in die Zukunft (Rudolf) 6) Mrs de Winter bin Ich (Rebecca) 7) Ich Gehor nur Mir (Elisabeth) 8) One Day More (Les Mis) 9) Milady is Zuruck (3 Musketeers) 10) On my own (Les Mis) And the funny thing is 4 months ago, I only knew the ones from Wicked and Les Mis. Edit 1) Added Prolog as joint 3rd (It should be up there) Edit 2) How could I forget Do you hear the people sing, I must have been sleeping when I made this list! I should stop editting this list. Its getting quite crowded now!!

Thanks Cherry-Pie for the information about Eternity! I knew it was a Dutch musical in English but that was it.
And I had also hear Kerry Ellis's rendition of "You Have to Be There." She sang it at an ABBA concert at Hyde Park as well.
I'll list another Top 10. Here are my favorite musicals in rough order of preference
1.) Les Mis 2.) Elisabeth 3.) Rebecca 4.) Kristina från Duvemåla 5.) Children of Eden 6.) Sweeney Todd 7.) Fiddler on the Roof 8.) Music Man 9.) Sunday in the Park with George 10.) My Fair Lady 11.) South Pacific
As much as I love Wicked I still think Children of Eden is Schwartz's best musical. I just picked up the book on Schwartz Defying Gravity so far I'm just loving it! He is a really inspiring artistic figure when you consider how much he has persevered through.

Top 10 musicals in roughly preference order. 1)les miserables (it's been my favourite for the longest). 2) wicked (I love it and it has defying gravity, what's not to like?). 3)elisabeth (a recent addition and my first foreign language musical, it practically taught me german!) 4)evita (a difficult choice but this has been a favourite for years too do it should be up high) 5)rudolf affaire mayerling (my 2nd foreign language musical) 6)Rebecca (fave book too) 7)chess (especially the soviet machine. I dont know why I love that song so much!) 8)phantom of the opera (I'm not as fond of this as I was but I still think it's really good) 9)Dracula ( only for zu ende, I'm not a fan of the Dracula/mina pairing) 10)my fair lady (old favourite)

These lists are so hard. But the show list isn't anywhere near as hard for me as the song list was. But there's no way I could do a "best live" list. I've seen too few people live. However I will say that almost any song improves if Anthony Warlow sings it. Which version of Dracula are you guys talking about? The German version of Wildhorn's? And Havanah, you're going to have to tell me about Szentivánéji álom, I've never heard of it. Is it Hungarian? And Rachel, I just luvvvvv "The Soviet Machine." There is something very addictive about that song. I also liked you little tidbits about the shows in parenthesis. I'll have to do that too. My favorite shows runners up list would have to include: -- Le Roi Soleil (this show is just candy!) -- Mozart L'Opéra Rock (this is a beautiful show I'm still figuring out) -- Wicked (I really want to see it, but the tour schedule has not worked for me yet) -- Chess (This was my intro to ABBA, needless to say, I was a little surprised when I heard real ABBA music later. I couldn't believe Mamma Mia! was written by the same people who'd written Chess and Kristina från Duvemåla) -- Martin Guerre (1999 version) (most peoplee prefer the 1996 version but I think this version is a big improvement, although I regret the loss of "I Will Make You Proud") -- Der Glöckner von Notre Dame (another of Schwartz's shows -- This show has such depth and beauty, it's so much better than the film, which I can't stand. It's such a shame this has yet to be done in English) -- Guys and Dolls (This is what a musical comedy should be) -- Kismet (One of my favorite movie musicals as a kid) -- Marie Antoinette (A little flawed but still a beautiful show) -- The Mystery of Edwin Drood (The writer, Rupert Holmes, is brilliant! Pick your own ending to Dickens' last, and unfinished novel) -- Nine (Surprisingly deep, my favorite Yeston and Kopit show) -- She Loves Me (This is just a sweet, sweet romantic little show! -- OH MY WORD, I found an old low-budget BBC TV version of it here)

I was talking about the Frank wildhorn version. It's subbed on YouTube if you haven't seen it. It's worth watching for that one song alone. As Ive mentioned, I wish they had stuck to the story line of the book.

The original Frank Wildhorn Dracula was in English but the German version is so much stronger lyrically. I must admit that Wildhorn is one of my favourite composers (Jekyll and Hyde too). I never much liked the novel Dracula (need to have another go at reading it - I think I tried when I was too young) so I didn't mind the whole Mina/Dracula bit and I thought it worked well enough as a plot.
is indeed Hungarian - it's a musical of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. I know I've posted this video here before but it's a lovely medley from the show and is one of the few bits of proshot/high quality video around.

Don't get me wrong, I love Frank Wildhorn, Rudolf Affaire Mayerling is one of my favourite shows and the music in Dracula is great... Zu Ende (need I say more) I think it was just I had read the book before. BTW. speaking of Dracula, has anyone seen the film of Van Helsing?

Yeah, I usually hate it when things change the plot so I totally understand. All I meant was because I hadn't read the book (although, of course, I knew the plot) I could see the musical differently.
I have seen Van Helsing XD

Havanah -- That's really cool! I'm glad to know there are Hungarian musicals (it's original to Hungary I'm assuming). With as much as the Hungarians love musicals -- and do them so well -- it had surprised me that there weren't any original Hungarian musicals and just a whole lot reworked versions of musicals from other countries.
I'll have to look into Szentivánéji álom further.
Now when it comes to Frank Wildhorn, I have a confession to make. I can't stand his shows. I love his scores, his songs etc ... but the books to all his shows make me crazy. I haven't had the courage to get beyond a few songs in Rudolf (I just love "Du bliebst bei mir" and "So viel mehr").
Of course this isn't the first time I've found a show that I love the score but hate the show. I just love the music to Robin Hood but the book of the show is just ... I don't think the writers knew what they were doing. Speaking of Robin Hood I should have listed "Der Sturm ist nah" in my list of favorites. But I also enjoy "Abschaum," "Salz der Erde" and "Freiheit brennt unter der Haut" and so many others that I might as well just list the whole score!

What other Wildhorn have you seen/listened to?

These are the Wildhorn songs/shows I'm familiar with:
-- J&H (Anthony Warlow version, and the B'way version) -- The Scarlet Pimpernel, original B'way and Pimpy 2.0; the second version is better but it still doesn't get the job done. -- Parts of The Civil War -- Various songs from Linda Eder's albums -- About half the songs from Ruldolf
Now, what I was love to see happen is for someone to rework his Pimpernel using the script to the 1980s TV movie with Jane Seymour as the basis for the musical's book. Some stuff would have to go, but the end result would be awesome!
And let me just say: Anthony Warlow ... WOW! That J&H album is part of what turned me into a Warlow fan.

I really loved Rudolf, although its very different from Elisabeth, its about the same period. The music is really beautiful, good mix of melodic and epic songs. Dracula's the only one of his other works that I really know so I couldn't make a judgement as to whether its very typically Wildhorn or not, but look up Wenn das schicksal dich ereilt and der weg in die zukunft. I could listen to those songs forever! I would put in links but youtube is making my computer freeze.
